Space, Speed and Signals - Serious About Science at the Royal Institution 22 September 2011 - From 09:45-16:00Your school is invited to send teams of students from Years 9 and 13 to this year’s Serious about Science schools event, which takes place at the world famous Royal Institution in London on the 22nd September. We’ve built in feedback from last year and are back with an even better programme in a great new location! Hosted by Kate Bellingham, the science broadcaster and STEM ambassador, Serious about Science 2011 is a brilliant combination of seminars and hands-on workshops.Starting at 09.45 and ending at 16.00, planned highlights of the day include:Presentations in the famous Faraday Lecture Theatre by the Bloodhound SSC team, showing how leading edge science, maths and engineering is helping them to create a vehicle capable of 1,000 mph and by the RI science team themselves with their spectacular and noisy demonstrations of key science discoveries.Eye-opening, hands-on science challenges with communications technology experts from the Royal Corps of Signals for Year 13 and Paradigm, one of the world’s leading satellite technology companies, for Year 9.We’ll round up the day with Science Question Time where your school will have chance to ask a question based on the day’s theme to the panel. The whole day is designed to inspire, engage and motivate young people to pursue a career in science, so careers advice and information will be an important part of the day’s agenda. The event is free but please make your own travel arrangements. You can reserve places for a team of 8 students from both of the year groups. To find out more about the Ironmongers scholarship programme, click here
